I've been exploring new drawing techniques for the new incarnation of Snaiad. A lot of stuff is getting overhauled, I plan to re-draw all organisms, and draw a lot of new species as well.
This means that if I'm to complete Snaiad before I die, I need to find a really time-efficient way of drawing these things. The current "digital line-art" technique you see here is all nice, but even that might be too time-consuming... the search goes on.
This is a small (80 cm from snout to legs, more with the tail,) Kahydron that dwells in mountain rivers. It's adapted to snatch "bugfish" from the water, and has big foot-claws to help it secure its catch.
I'm still torn between different styles... I'm also considering Terryl-whitlatch style pencil outlines with color, just pencil, or machine-lines like these ones...
I think the machine lines combined with color would be awesome if you could manage it. If you have to choose between linework and color, however, I say choose color (and maybe backgrounds).
I like the sleek design of the body of this creature. It looks like it can both dig & sprint. I'm also glad to know why I can't access Snaiad lately. I'm also thinking of doing a story about an American who moves to Snaiad. I'd like to hear what you think first, though. Lastly, it turns out NectocarisIS a Cephalopod. The ORIGINAL cephalopod, in fact, according to this paper. The other paper stopped short of formally changing the classification.
Wow, interesting paper. I'd still be careful about labeling Cambrian fossils as definitive members of extant classes. In a lot of cases, there is simply not enough detail for a detailed analysis.
Very nice story - I don't think an American would feel very out-of place on Snaiad, after all, it was settled by people who lived on a more-or-less globalized Earth. There would, however, be a plethora of slight cultural differences after three centuries of colonization.
In the Snaiad universe there is no faster-than-light transport. Travel between planets is very expensive, and takes longer than a lifetime. Star travelers freeze their body, and immortalize it via nanotreatment to withstand the journey. Even then, the trip and the therapy does weird things to your brain...
OK. Just so you know, in my ficverse, Poli is a lot like a Mediterranean-ized, 26th century version of New York City. The main character is supposed to be a descendant of myself. He actually makes a working Infinite Improbability Drive.
Of course it's up to you
