Our new book with Darren Naish and John Conway is now out!
The Cryptozoologicon is a s a celebration of the myths, legends, evolution and biology of hidden animals.
This is one of my artworks from the book, depicting a realistic version of a supposedly "dinosaur-like" cryptid called Mbielu-Mbielu-Mbielu! Buy the Cryptozoologicon from Irregular Books today at www.irregularbooks.co !

Is that a baby or a female? I only ask cuase for species that fight over mates the males usually get a lot bigger.

Much more plausible than a Stegosaurid.

What a bizarre and beautiful painting!
Yeah, Imperator-Zor's right... 'stegosaur fish'! That said I'm afraid I'm not familiar with this cryptid, though in some ways it sounds not unlike the Mokele-mbembe in that it has been taken on as a possible 'living' dinosaur.

Also, I love how to handled this piece. It really has a feel like that of your older watercolor paintings. Now, the grass in the background... by any chance was that painted in, or added from a photograph?

Never heard of this cryptid until I bought a copy of the Cryptozoologicon. Kudos to you - and Darren and John - for it, stoked to see Volume II appear :)

Great interpretation! Much more plausible than the ridiculous aquatic stegosaur you usually see. Can't wait to read the whole book.

Wonderful rendition!  Much more likely than an aquatic stegosaur.  :)  It's nice that this cryptid has gotten a little attention!  What would it be related to?  lungfish?

It's a bichir, or reedfish.

That was one of my favorite illustrations in the Cryptozoologicon and I'm jealous that I hadn't the idea earlier
By the way, I love the new traditional look of your digital art!

Yeah, the stegosaur-hypothesis never made sense, because... err... as we know, the last stegosaur died during early cretaceous, so it's unlikely, that they've survived. The idea, that the Mbielu-Mbielu-Mbielu is, if it exists, a bichir is far more plausible.

Can't await to get the book!

Just one point of a little critique (sorry about that): The dorsal fins should maybe be partly covered with green algae...

Well... to be positive: Wonderful painting! That it shows an adult with a young gives it a great backstory! Is the adult fish the protecting and carying mother?

And I have to say, that the original bichir-idea is brilliant! Never had this idea in mind! :D Awesome!

Just one word....AWESOME!!!

I like how Irregular books change the old shit stereotypes about prehistoric animals (shrink-wrapped illustration :P ) and the Cryptozoology itself ( if we see something strange animal, its probably a DINOSAUR :P )

What should be very cool? A book about Kaijus in realistic vision as we saw the dinosaurs in All Yesterdays :D
